Mexican-American War The Mexican-American War is one of the deadliest wars in U.S. History. This war was a Battle driven by Manifest Destiny for the Americans to acquire the territory of Texas that they felt belonged to them. But Mexico refused to give up the territory to the United States. The war consisted of several issues between the United States and Mexico that couldn’t be negotiated or resolved without the use of force. After a border incident between Mexican and American troops. President Polk declared war on April 25, 1846 against the Republic of Mexico. In The American perspective, The War was driven by economic depressions. The United States had problems with high population growth from birth rates and immigrations. They were also seeking more territory for better opportunities, promotion of economic growth, and political pressures. The United States believed because of manifest destiny they had the right to also have Texas as part of their territory. So the U.S. set out to negoti ate with Mexico to gain rights for the territory. General Taylor and his American troop were sent to the Rio Grande River in Texas to scare the Mexican government. The Mexican government also sent in their troops to the Rio Grande to defend their territory. This resulted in an incident between American troops, and Mexico that gave Polk leverage to convince congress to make it official to begin the Mexican-American war.
